There’s something special about cocktails. They transport us to another place and time, from a crusty fisherman’s bar in Hemingway’s
1930s Cuba, to a dark, wood-paneled 1960s lounge wafting with cigarette smoke, to the casual, neighborhood vibe of an Irish pub.
Inspired by this sense of escapism, I created cocktail characters based on their origins, characteristics, names or adaptations by popular culture.
Margarita showcases her Mexican heritage in a traditional huipil tunic.
Mojito sports the traditional Cuban guayabera shirt and obligatory cigar.
Old Fashioned, the cocktail of choice of Don Draper, wears a classic 1960s suit, hat and cigarette.
Manhattan, created at the Manhattan Club in the mid-19th century, exhibits late Victorian fashion and mutton chops.
White Russian, the favorite drink of The Dude in Big Lebowski, showcases his signature Pendleton sweater and love of bowling.
Mimosa, a staple at weddings, brunch and first-class travel, poses in classic fashion pieces.
Irish Coffee models classic Irish garb – tweed, woven scarf and a fisherman’s sweater.
Negroni flaunts his stylish Italian flair for fashion.
Bushwacker, synonymous with the beach, prepares to head out for a swim and snorkel.
Mai Tai evokes her Tiki culture and Polynesian heritage.
Bloody Mary conveys her regal Queen Mary I attire.
Sazerac, the official cocktail of New Orleans, dons Mardi Gras accoutrements and the essential seersucker suit.
Moscow Mule, named for its main ingredient of vodka, sports the traditional Russian ushanka hat and kosovorotka shirt.
Martini channels his best James Bond tux and sexy smirk.
Whiskey Sour (part of the sour drink family purportedly conceived by the British Navy in the 19th century to ease sea ailments) stands at command in his naval officer uniform.
Pimm's Cup, a British staple and drink of choice at Wimbledon, sports her best spectator fashion inspired by Kate Middleton (of course).
Cosmopolitan pays tribute to her popularity on Sex and the City with quintessential Carrie pieces (pink tank top, tulle skirt, namesake necklace)
Daiquiri, another Cuban creation, celebrates Cuba’s heyday with a 1950s swing dress and fascinator hat.
